The Sikhote-Alin Iron meteorite fell in Russia near Vladivostok in February 1947. It was a monster fall, tearing down a forest and giving scientists a rude awakening of dangers from asteroid collisions with Earth. See its characteristics, the signature black fusion crust (burnt skin) and heavily regmaglypted (thumbprinted) shape owing to the intense heat it encountered while plunging through our atmosphere. The cube beside it is 1 cubic centimeter for size reference.
